Consensual Relationships Policy

Romantic and/or sexual relationships between supervisors and direct report staff are prohibited at Duke. Such relationships have the potential for adverse consequences, including the filing of sexual harassment charges. Given the fundamentally unbalanced nature of the relationship where one party has the power to evaluate performance, assign work, change work status, promote staff, provide work references or give salary increases, the apparent consensual nature of the relationship may cast doubt on the objectivity of the supervisor.
