Reporting Obligations of Section 117 of the Health Education Act

Under Section 117 of the Higher Education Act (“Section 117”), Duke University is required submit a report to the U.S. Department of Education on January 31 and July 31 of each year that identifies instances where Duke, a Duke subsidiary or an intermediary for Duke has received one or more gifts from, or enters into one or more contracts with, a foreign source, where the value of the gift(s) or contract(s) is $250,000 or more in a calendar year.  This Policy sets forth the obligations of Duke academic, administrative of other offices who initiate, review, approve or process gifts or contracts with a foreign source and the obligation of the University Controller for submitting Section 117 Reports.
